That is exactly why our child seat service exists. On every transfer and every airport pickup we provide the right seat free of charge, from a baby seat for the smallest passengers to a booster for older children. You simply climb in, buckle up your child and enjoy the drive through the Salzburg countryside.
We have run this service for years for guests landing at Salzburg Airport (SZG), Munich Airport (MUC) and Vienna Airport (VIE). The routes from Munich and Vienna to Salzburg in particular are long enough that a properly mounted seat is not only required by law but essential for a calm, settled child. Our Mercedes E-Class and roomy V-Class offer ample space for several seats, a pram and the entire family's luggage.
Austria has a clear rule: children under 14 years of age and below 135 centimetres in height must be secured in an appropriate restraint system. This is not a detail we leave to chance. Our chauffeurs know the regulations precisely and fit every seat professionally with Isofix long before your flight lands. You need do nothing but help your child into the car.
The seat is included in the flat rate of your transfer, with no surcharge whatsoever. In my many years behind the wheel I have learned that nothing reassures parents more than a seat that is already correctly fitted when they step into the arrivals hall. Parents arriving with a toddler via Munich or Vienna are tired after a long flight. When I am waiting with a name sign and the seat is fully secured with Isofix, I can see the tension leave their faces at once. That moment is what matters to me.
I check every seat personally before the flight lands. With a baby seat I watch the harness routing, with a toddler seat the firm Isofix anchoring, with a booster the correct shoulder belt position. On the A1 between Munich and Salzburg or the Tauern route toward Zell am See I drive smoothly and with anticipation, because a sleeping child is the best sign of a successful trip. In winter I fit winter tyres in good time and carry snow chains so that even snow-covered pass roads pose no risk.
My advice to every family: tell us your child's age and weight at booking, not just an approximate height. That way I provide exactly the right seat and not a makeshift solution. The service costs you nothing extra, but it makes the difference between a hectic arrival and a relaxed start to your stay in Salzburg. On that you have my word.

Baby seat, child seat, booster: free and already fitted
We carry three seat categories permanently in the vehicle, and all three are free for our guests. The baby seat covers 0 to 13 kg, meaning newborns up to roughly fifteen months, and is fitted rear-facing. The child seat for 9 to 18 kg is the classic toddler seat with impact shield or five-point harness. The booster for 15 to 36 kg carries children into early school years and routes the vehicle belt properly across shoulder and hips. You pay nothing for any of it, not per seat and not per journey, whether you need one or four.
Austrian law is unambiguous here. Children under fourteen who are shorter than 135 cm may only travel in a suitable restraint. That applies to private cars, to hire cars and to us. We do not treat it as paperwork but as a precondition: no child rides with us without the correct seat, not even for the ten minutes from hotel to main station. Exemptions that exist for commercial carriage do not interest us, because we are moving a family, not a statistic.
We fit the seats before you arrive, not afterwards. A single seat is properly tensioned in about five minutes; three seats side by side in a V-Class realistically take fifteen to twenty, because you retension belts, check the Isofix latches and balance the gap between the shells. That is exactly why we want ages and weights in advance. When you walk through arrivals at 23:40 with two exhausted children, nobody should be threading belt webbing in a dim car park.
What genuinely helps at booking: the age and approximate weight of each child, whether one has outgrown the infant carrier, whether you are bringing your own seat, whether a stroller is coming and whether it should travel folded or open. Tell us too if a child suffers from motion sickness, and we seat them further forward and take the bends towards Hallstatt more gently. These details cost you a minute in the form and save us both a great deal.
Your own seats are of course welcome. Many parents travel with their familiar carrier because the baby sleeps in it and transferring at the airport would be the worst part of the day. Our chauffeurs will install your seat if you prefer, or stow it as luggage if you use ours. If you are unsure which category your child needs right now, simply add the age. We then bring both plausible seats and decide on the spot in thirty seconds.

The journey, step by step
From landing to hotel door, planned around children
Salzburg Airport is mercifully small. From touchdown to the baggage belt rarely takes more than fifteen minutes, and that is exactly what makes it pleasant for families. We track your flight number live, so an hour's delay out of Amsterdam or an early approach from London has no consequences for you. The chauffeur stands in arrivals with a name sign, takes the heavy pieces off you and leads the way. If you handed the buggy over at the aircraft door and it only surfaces at the oversized baggage desk, we simply wait. That is planned for and not a problem.
The walk to the vehicle takes a few minutes, mostly level and step-free. Anyone who has hunted for a strange car park at two in the morning with a toddler on one arm, a sleeping baby in a carrier and three suitcases knows why we insist on fitting the seats beforehand. You lay the child in, pull the harness closed and sit down. The cabin is already warm, the lighting dimmed, and nobody is arguing about Isofix in the drizzle.
Into central Salzburg is about twenty minutes. We deliver to the hotel door, in Nonntal just as in the old town, where we know the access rules and will not drop you three streets away. Equally, we collect you at the hotel entrance when it is time to head back to the airport. For families with a stroller, that alone is the difference between a relaxed start and a march across cobblestones.
We run to Hallstatt almost daily, and with children we plan the day differently. An early departure, a stop at Lake Wolfgang to stretch legs, then the road along the Hallstätter See. We suggest roughly four hours on site. The chauffeur stays nearby, so rain jackets, spare trousers or the buggy are always within reach. On the way back the children are usually asleep by Bad Ischl at the latest, and we drive quietly and evenly to match.
In winter the direction is Ski amadé, Zell am See, Flachau or Wagrain. The last stretch of a mountain road is precisely where experience counts: hairpins in fresh snow, sleeping children on the back bench, ski bags in the tail. Our chauffeurs drive these runs all winter, know the weather on the pass and the hotel approaches you can only take from one side in a van. For the return we deliberately build in more buffer, because families move slower on departure day than they believe, and because Munich and Vienna as alternative airports mean a predictable but long leg.

In the Mercedes V-Class we fit up to three seats side by side and still keep room for two adults and the luggage. In the Vito up to four seats are possible, split across two rows. For very large groups with four or more children we run two vehicles in convoy so nobody travels wedged in.
Do we need to bring our own seats?+
No. We carry baby seat, child seat and booster on board, inspected and regularly replaced. You are welcome to bring your familiar seat, though, especially if your child reliably falls asleep in it. We will install it or stow it, whichever you prefer.
Are the child seats really free?+
Yes, without exception. There is no per-seat supplement, no fitting fee and no surcharge on the return leg. The fare depends on route and vehicle and is shown transparently in the calculator. We do not charge for children's safety.
Can you carry a newborn?+
Yes. The 0 kg infant carrier is designed for newborns and is fitted rear-facing. Please tell us if you need a flat lie-back position. With very young babies we deliberately build in longer breaks, particularly on the run from Munich to Salzburg.
What happens to the stroller?+
It comes along, usually even unfolded. If you handed the buggy over at the aircraft door and only get it back at the baggage belt, the chauffeur simply waits. A twin stroller goes into the V-Class without dismantling, a standard buggy easily.
Do ski equipment and child seats fit at the same time?+
Yes, with advance notice. Four ski bags plus boot bags and two fitted child seats are routine in the V-Class. Just tell us how many ski bags and whether snowboards are included, and we plan the seat rows accordingly, sending the larger Vito if needed.
We land after midnight. Is that possible?+
Of course. We operate around the clock and monitor your flight number. If the aircraft is delayed, our pickup shifts automatically without a call from you. The chauffeur stands in arrivals with a name sign, the vehicle is pre-warmed and the seats are already fitted.
Is a Hallstatt day worth it with small children?+
Yes, if you plan it realistically. We suggest an early start, a stop at Lake Wolfgang and about four hours on site. The chauffeur stays nearby, so you can fetch jackets, spare clothes or the buggy at any time instead of carrying everything all day.
How far ahead should we book?+
For a single seat, one or two days is often enough. For three seats, ski luggage or an approach via Munich or Vienna we recommend at least 48 hours, and in peak season around Christmas, Easter and the Festival ideally a week. We will always try at short notice regardless.
