"We landed on a February ski Saturday, the hall was packed and it was snowing hard outside. Our driver still stood right at the info desk with a name board, car outside the door, child seat already fitted. The drive to Zell am See via the recommended alternative route was far quicker than we feared. Completely dependable."
Salzburg airport taxi at a flat rate – no meter, with a name sign at arrivals.
If you land at Salzburg Airport (W. A. Mozart, IATA: SZG) and need a taxi to the old town, your hotel or onwards to a ski resort, you have two options: the classic metered taxi at the rank – or a pre-booked flat-rate taxi with a chauffeur waiting in arrivals holding your name. This page explains the second option: what it costs, how it works, and why on most routes it ends up cheaper.
- Guaranteed flat rate
- Flight tracking incl.
- 60 min wait free
- No weekend surcharge
Book, land, get met in arrivals with a name sign – the Salzburg airport taxi in three steps.
Step 1 – book before your flight. You enter pickup (Salzburg Airport), destination (hotel address, old-town address, ski resort etc.), planned arrival date and time, and your flight number. The system instantly returns your flat rate for the chosen vehicle class – shown transparently before you confirm. No weekend or night tariff.
Step 2 – flight tracking & auto-adjustment. Our system monitors your flight automatically. If it's delayed, the pickup time shifts in step without you needing to call. Same on early arrivals. You receive a confirmation 12 hours and 1 hour before pickup with vehicle make, model, chauffeur name and direct mobile number by email and SMS.
Step 3 – meeting at Salzburg Airport. After clearing baggage you meet your chauffeur in the arrivals hall (right of the baggage exit, next to the information desk), holding your name sign. The chauffeur takes the luggage, walks you to the car on Premium Lot P3 (around 90-second walk), and within 4 minutes you're on your way to the hotel.
Unlike a classic metered Salzburg airport taxi at the rank, you know before flying exactly what the ride costs, which vehicle is coming and who the chauffeur is. The gap between a typical Salzburg airport taxi on the meter (€35–€55 for the city, depending on time of day, plus weekend surcharge) and our flat rate tilts in our favour as soon as wait time, weekends or night tariffs enter the picture – with zero risk to you.

Salzburg Airport (SZG) – what you should know as a taxi guest
Salzburg W. A. Mozart Airport sits about 5.5 km west of the old town – the shortest distance of any Austrian regional airport to its city centre. With our flat-rate taxi you'll be at Mozartplatz in 10–14 minutes in normal traffic, at Hotel Sacher or Bristol in 15–18 minutes, and at the central station in 20 minutes. Peak periods (Festival weeks, ski school holidays) push the trip to 20–25 minutes.
The official taxi rank is in front of the terminal on the left. Pre-booked taxis – like our flat-rate cars – instead wait at Premium Lot P3, accessed for free through the arrivals hall. Your chauffeur meets you inside, not outside. In rain or snow that's a real comfort gain.
Common routes from Salzburg Airport: city-centre hotels (Sacher, Bristol, Goldener Hirsch, Stein, Imlauer, NH Salzburg City), Hellbrunn (palace + Salzburg Marionette Theatre), Anif (gateway to the Salzkammergut), the central station (for onward trains to Vienna, Munich, Innsbruck), and the region's ski resorts: Zell am See / Kaprun, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Obertauern and Kitzbühel. For all of these we issue a flat rate up front – you know the price before you board the plane.
One quirk of SZG: during festival premieres and top sporting events (FIS Ski World Cup slalom in Kitzbühel, the Hahnenkamm, the Salzburg Festival), the taxi rank can be capacity-stressed. Wait times of 20–40 minutes are not unusual. With a pre-booking you bypass it entirely – your car is already waiting the moment you step out of arrivals.

Salzburg in motion
Arriving at Salzburg Airport: what actually happens
Salzburg W. A. Mozart Airport is refreshingly small: one terminal, one arrivals hall, a single exit from the baggage area. The moment you step through the sliding doors you are in the hall, and that is exactly where your chauffeur waits with a name board, to the right of the information desk. There is no maze of levels as in Munich or Vienna. With hand luggage only, it often takes less than fifteen minutes from touchdown to sitting in the car. The vehicle stands on the reserved pickup bays directly outside the terminal, barely thirty metres away, so even in snowfall there is no long walk in the open.
We track your flight number from departure. If the aircraft lands early, say with a tailwind from London or Amsterdam, the driver is already in position. If it is delayed, your pickup shifts automatically, no phone call needed and no surcharge within the included waiting time. Worth knowing: Salzburg has a night operating window, and late aircraft are occasionally diverted to Munich or Linz. There is a procedure for that too: you send us a short message, we re-dispatch and collect you at the diversion airport.
The city's geography works in our favour. The Innsbrucker Bundesstrasse runs from the terminal towards the centre in minutes, but the Old Town itself is largely pedestrianised, with a one-way system along Griesgasse and Franz-Josef-Kai. Hotels such as the Goldener Hirsch or addresses on Getreidegasse have no conventional forecourt; access is via defined loading zones with time windows. Our drivers know the access permits and the hotel forecourts on the right bank of the Salzach, for instance at the Sacher on Schwarzstrasse, where stopping is only briefly permitted. You step out where the doorman stands, not three lanes away.
The city transforms with the seasons. During the Festival weeks from late July to late August, Hofstallgasse is closed and evening performances send waves of traffic through the Neutor tunnel between 10 and 11 pm. In Advent, the Christmas markets on Domplatz and Residenzplatz slow the approach roads to walking pace, especially on the four Advent Saturdays. And in winter, ski Saturdays are the real stress test: on February changeover days, charters from the UK and Scandinavia land every half hour, and the Tauern motorway towards Zell am See and Obertauern backs up from Golling. If you travel to a ski resort on a Saturday, we plan deliberate buffers with you; we often recommend the earlier arrival slot or the route via the Lammertal valley.
Our timing advice from years on the ground: for departures from Salzburg, 90 minutes at the terminal is almost always enough, except on ski Saturdays, when two hours are wise. For arrivals connecting to evening appointments in the city, allow 15 to 20 minutes of driving on weekdays, closer to 30 on Fridays after 4 pm. During major events like Jedermann on Domplatz or match days in Wals-Klessheim, we contact you in advance if your pickup time should be adjusted. That local knowledge is the difference between a ride and a reliable arrival.

What our guests say
"Our flight from Frankfurt was over an hour late. Not a single phone call needed, the chauffeur was already waiting in the arrivals hall and knew the new landing time. He took us right to the loading zone on Getreidegasse, a few steps from our hotel. The fixed price stayed exactly as confirmed."
"We arrived mid Festival season, with heavy evening traffic around the Neutor tunnel after a performance. The driver had planned for it and suggested an earlier pickup time in advance, so we reached our hotel on Schwarzstrasse relaxed. Very professional, only the email reconfirmation arrived a little late."
Good to Know: Practical Tips for Your Airport Taxi
If your luggage does not arrive, we do not simply drive off. Your chauffeur waits while you file the report at the lost-and-found desk and coordinates with our office if needed. Keep the reference number from your report; we are happy to pass your accommodation's delivery address to baggage tracing so the suitcase can be forwarded straight to where you are staying.
Travelling with skis, snowboards, a pram or golf bags? Mention it when booking. Our V-Class and Vito carry several ski bags plus suitcases comfortably, while the E-Class gets tight beyond two pairs of skis. You can pay by card directly in the vehicle, contactless or chip, and Apple Pay and Google Pay work too. The invoice is emailed to you afterwards.
You can book your outbound and return journey in a single step; just enter both dates in the form. For early-morning departures from Salzburg Airport, we suggest a pickup that gets you to the terminal about 90 minutes before your flight, and a little earlier in winter or on January and February Saturdays. Your driver confirms the pickup time by message the evening before.
