Why ski transfer isn't a standard transfer

A rental-car queue on 4 January at 09:30 is 90 minutes long. A Vito with chauffeur is there in seconds.

The ski season in Salzburg is an industry of its own. Between mid-December and Easter, up to 18 charter flights land in Salzburg every Saturday morning, mostly from the UK, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Israel. Every family carries two or three ski bags, a helmet case and a carry-on with a down jacket. That doesn't fit in a mid-class sedan – and certainly not without a boot rack.

Our answer: a Vito fleet with roof ski box, internal ski rack behind the rear seat, and a built-in cradle for four sets of ski boots. We run year-round on Vredestein Wintrac Pro – a tyre rated first or second by ÖAMTC every year since 2021. Snow chains to Austrian Ö-Norm B7102-2 sit in every vehicle, and the chauffeur is trained to fit them.

The second layer is route knowledge. The Tauern motorway A10 regularly closes for 30 minutes in winter after HGV incidents at the Lieser-Hofgastein tunnel. We keep three alternatives ready: the B311 (Großarl/Wagrain), the B167 (Gastein valley) and the Tauern Pass secondary road (dry conditions only). Your chauffeur decides 30 minutes before departure based on current traffic.

"On a January Saturday morning we move more skiers per hour than the ÖBB Railjet on the Tauern line."

Winter operations · seasonal head dispatcher

A typical charter Saturday choreography: 07:50 the TUI from Manchester lands with 178 passengers, 92 of them on our pre-booked transfers. We have six Vitos on parking deck P1, two V-Class on reserve. Dispatch has grouped the manifests overnight: four Vitos for Saalbach (7 pax each), two for Kitzbühel, one V-Class for a 14-person Israeli family to Bad Gastein.

The art is timing baggage retrieval. Historical data tells us ski luggage from a Manchester TUI typically reaches the oversize belt 18 minutes after landing. Our chauffeurs are in the hall from minute 14, collecting before passengers arrive. That saves 8 minutes per family – and across 92 passengers it means the last Vito can leave at 09:18 rather than 09:52.

What guests don't see but feel: punctual hotel arrival. We deliver 95% of Saturday pickup families to their resort hotel between 10:00 and 10:45. Since many hotels only check in from 14:00, we hand out ski-boot storage options in advance – so you're on the piste by 11:00 rather than 14:30.

Ski transfer FAQ

General questions on ski transfers from Salzburg

Can't find your answer? Message us on WhatsApp – we typically reply within minutes.

WhatsApp
Which vehicle is recommended for ski transfers?+

Mercedes Vito for 4+ guests with ski gear, alternatively V-Class for 1–7 guests with moderate gear. The E-Class can take two ski bags diagonally – sufficient for a couple without kids.

Are ski-boot cradles standard?+

Yes in every Vito, four sets. In V-Class on request. This avoids ski boots sliding around the boot.

Can you build a ski rental stop into the route?+

Yes, up to two stops free. We coordinate with Intersport Bründl, Sport 2000 or Wagner ski rentals at the resorts. 30 minutes of standby included.

What if a sudden snow closure happens?+

We hold three alternative routes for most resorts. On total closure (rare, about three times per season on the A10) we offer Salzburg hotel overnight and next-day transfer at no extra cost.

Do you offer same-day ski-shoe transfers?+

Yes, hourly. Popular with business travellers who want one day on skis: 07:30 hotel pickup, 09:00 resort drop-off, 17:00 resort pickup, 18:30 Salzburg drop-off. Hourly package from €450.

Are charter transfers capped?+

In the charter peak (24.12.–02.01., Easter week, Mardi Gras week) we recommend booking 8 weeks ahead. Outside peak, 7–10 days' notice is enough.

Can snowboarders bring more gear?+

Yes, snowboards are standard in the Vito. Up to four boards fit diagonally next to the rear seat with two boot bags. For more equipment we recommend a two-Vito convoy.

What insurance applies in the vehicle?+

Fully comprehensive, occupant accident insurance €15,000 per person, theft protection for ski gear in the vehicle up to €3,000. Please take valuables at drop-off.

Do you accept tour-operator vouchers?+

Yes – we have direct contracts with most major operators: TUI, Crystal Ski, Inghams, Esquire Ski. Voucher booking runs through their portal; we meet you at the airport.

When are flat rates updated?+

Flat rates are set per season (December–April). The current prices on this page apply to season 2025/2026. Early-booker discount of 5% on bookings until 30 September.
