Ski Transfer · 85 km · 60 min

From airport to glacier in one hour – ski bags in the Vito, not on your lap.

Zell am See–Kaprun is one of the few places in Europe where you can ski powder in May – thanks to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier at 3,029 m. We take you there via A10 and B311, with winter tyres, ski-boot cradles and a chauffeur who knows the Schmittenhöhe climb in snow with his eyes closed.

The route

Along the A10 Tauern motorway, past Bischofshofen, into the Pinzgau valley.

Salzburg–Zell am See is one of Austria's most beautiful winter routes. We take the A10 south to Bischofshofen, switch onto the B311 and follow the Saalach valley to Zell am See. The final 12 km from Maishofen are spectacular – Schmittenhöhe on the left, Lake Zell on the right, the Hohe Tauern straight ahead.

On snowfall we adjust the routing: instead of the direct A10 we take the B159 via Hallein and Golling, which sees fewer HGV closures. In April 2024 we hit three weekend A10 closures in a row for avalanche risk in the Lieser tunnel – every time the alternative got us in on schedule.

The destination isn't always "Zell am See town". Many families head straight to the Kitzsteinhorn car park at Kaprun (3 km further south) or to hotels in Schüttdorf, Maishofen or on the lakeshore. We know the area inch by inch and deliver you to the hotel door, not "nearby".

From the Pinzgau specialist

"In winter the last stretch to Kaprun isn't a stroll – but there's a trick."

Pinzgau chauffeur · since 2017

The last 3 km from Zell am See to Kaprun runs through the Salzach valley with two bridges that regularly ice over in winter. Many rental drivers lose traction here, especially on under-spec tyres. We drive this stretch on average twelve times a week between December and March – I know every braking point in advance.

My tip: when a rental convoy in front slows, we keep 100 m back and use the lane-choice reserve. V-Class and Vito carry AWD, E-Class is rear-wheel with ESP+. On ÖAMTC black-ice warnings we switch to the B311 detour around Bruck-Fusch, 5 minutes longer but continuously gritted.

What that means for you as a guest: punctual arrival. 96% of our Zell am See pickups reach the hotel within 5 minutes of the promised time – even in blizzards. When that doesn't work (rare, about four times per season), we cover the cost: no waiting fee, plus a voucher for the next ride.
