Overview

Your Chauffeur Service for Hotel Bristol Salzburg

Hotel Bristol Salzburg has welcomed guests on Makartplatz since 1892, directly opposite Mirabell Palace and just steps from Mozart's Residence. A house with that kind of history deserves an arrival to match. That is exactly what we provide: we collect you at Salzburg Airport (SZG) and bring you across the Salzach to the right bank in around 10 minutes, straight to the Bristol's front door. No queue, no dragging luggage, no scanning a car park for the right vehicle.

On arrival, your chauffeur waits for you in the arrivals hall of Salzburg Airport holding a name sign. We track your flight live: if your aircraft lands early or late, the pickup time adjusts automatically, at no extra charge and without you having to call anyone. Your chauffeur takes your luggage, walks you to the waiting car, and minutes after leaving the terminal you are settled into an air-conditioned Mercedes saloon or V-Class van heading for the old town.

Departure is planned just as carefully. Your chauffeur waits at the agreed time at the hotel entrance on Makartplatz, helps the porter load your cases and delivers you to check-in with a comfortable time buffer. For flights, our on-time guarantee applies: we factor in traffic, season and your airline so you arrive at the airport relaxed rather than rushed.

Guests flying via Munich (MUC) or Vienna (VIE) benefit most from a private transfer. The drive from Munich Airport to the Bristol takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic, from Vienna around 3 hours, each door to door, with no train changes and no hauling luggage across platforms. After a long-haul flight, the difference between a rail connection with two changes and one uninterrupted journey in a quiet saloon is enormous.

Every journey is a fixed flat rate: the price is confirmed at booking and does not change with traffic, waiting time after a delayed flight, or time of day. You can calculate the exact rate for your route in our booking calculator in under a minute, so you know the cost before you even land and can focus on why you came to Salzburg in the first place.

Senior chauffeur, more than 15 years on Salzburg's roads

The Bristol is one of the most pleasant addresses in town for us drivers. Access on Makartplatz is straightforward, we stop directly in front of the entrance and the porter is at the car for the luggage right away. From the airport it rarely takes 15 minutes along the Innsbrucker Bundesstrasse, even during the Festival season, because we know the traffic around the Staatsbrücke and when the route along the right bank of the Salzach is quicker.

I tell many guests on arrival: leave the car behind, you will not need one here. From the Bristol you are in the Mirabell Gardens in two minutes, Mozart's Residence is practically at the door, and a five-minute stroll across the Makartsteg footbridge puts you in the Getreidegasse. The Linzergasse with its cafes and small shops starts just around the corner. Where you need us is everything beyond walking range: airports, day trips, evening engagements outside the city.

My tip for your stay: set aside a day for Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut. From the Bristol we drive via Fuschl and St. Gilgen along Lake Wolfgang, one of the most beautiful roads in Austria. If we leave the hotel at eight, you arrive in Hallstatt ahead of the coaches and have the village almost to yourself. On the way back there is time for a stop in St. Wolfgang, and you are back at the hotel in good time for dinner.

Local Insider Knowledge

Makartplatz in Detail: How Arrival at Hotel Bristol Actually Works

Hotel Bristol sits at Makartplatz 4, directly opposite the Holy Trinity Church and just steps from the Mirabell Gardens. For chauffeurs, the location is a gift: unlike the hotels in the left-bank old town, where pedestrian zones and retractable bollards complicate every approach, Makartplatz on the right bank of the Salzach is fully accessible by car. We arrive via Rainerstrasse from the main station or via the expressway from the airport, turning in through the Franz-Josefs quarter. The forecourt directly in front of the portal allows a brief stop for boarding, and your chauffeur hands the luggage straight to the hotel porter. Anyone who has ever dragged suitcases across the cobblestones of Getreidegasse knows exactly what this difference is worth.

The one-way system around the square matters. Dreifaltigkeitsgasse towards Linzer Gasse is pedestrians only, and Schwarzstrasse along the river carries traffic in a single direction past the Landestheater. An out-of-town driver trusting the satnav quickly ends up looping over the Staatsbrücke and back. Our chauffeurs deliberately route via Elisabethkai or Rainerstrasse depending on the time of day, keeping the final approach from the city edge under five minutes. For departures, the car is waiting in front of the house before you step out of the lobby; we brief the porter in advance.

The season sets the rhythm. During the Salzburg Festival from mid July to the end of August, the neighbourhood becomes a stage: the Landestheater and the Mozarteum concert hall are practically around the corner, and from late afternoon evening gowns and shuttle coaches fill Schwarzstrasse. If you need the airport on a premiere evening, build in 20 minutes of reserve; we recommend departures before 4:30 pm or after 8:00 pm. In Advent, the Christmas market on Mirabellplatz turns the immediate neighbourhood into a pedestrian zone lined with punch stalls, and the Staatsbrücke jams reliably on Saturdays. In those weeks our drivers divert via the Lehen bridge.

Winter Saturdays from late December to early April are the third pinch point, though not in the city itself but on the approach roads. Changeover day in the ski resorts sends thousands of vehicles onto the Tauern motorway and the German Corner route. A transfer from Hotel Bristol to Munich Airport, normally a comfortable two hours on the A8, can take considerably longer on a January Saturday. We plan these days using our own timing data from many winter seasons and simply schedule the pickup earlier, rather than leaving you sweating at the terminal. For flights out of Vienna Airport we plan the roughly 300 kilometres along the A1 with a fixed buffer and a rest stop on request.

Here is your arrival minute by minute: when your aircraft lands at Salzburg Airport, your chauffeur has been tracking the flight since departure. He waits in the arrivals hall of Terminal W. A. Mozart with a name board, takes over the luggage trolley and walks you the two minutes to the car parked directly outside the building. The drive runs along Innsbrucker Bundesstrasse, past the exhibition centre, across the Lehen bridge onto the right bank and down Schwarzstrasse to Makartplatz. After about ten minutes we stop at the Bristol's portal, the chauffeur passes your luggage to the porter, and you are standing at reception before fellow passengers have located their rental car. Late-night arrivals follow the identical routine; the Bristol's front desk is staffed around the clock.

What our guests say

"We landed on the evening flight from London and our chauffeur was waiting calmly in arrivals despite a 40 minute delay. Ten minutes later we pulled up right in front of the Bristol on Makartplatz and the luggage went straight to the porter. No searching, no hauling, simply arrived."

"Transfer from the Bristol to Munich Airport on a Saturday in January. The driver had planned for the ski traffic and collected us deliberately early, a calm run along the A8 with time for a coffee before departure. Exactly the foresight you hope for."

"Booked during the Festival with pickup on a premiere evening. The chauffeur skirted the closed Schwarzstrasse with total confidence and we reached the airport entirely stress free. One star off only because the confirmation arrived a little late; the ride itself was flawless."

We operate Mercedes-Benz E-Class saloons for up to three guests and V-Class vans for up to seven guests with generous space for suitcases, ski or golf luggage. Child seats are provided free of charge on request, just note them at booking.

Why should I pre-book instead of finding a car on arrival?+
