Overview

Your Chauffeur Service for the IMLAUER Hotel Pitter

The IMLAUER Hotel Pitter Salzburg sits at one of the most practical addresses in the city: on Rainerstrasse, between Mirabellplatz and the main railway station. For us as a Salzburg-based transfer operator, it is one of our most frequently driven routes, because this 4-star-superior house with the famous Pitter Keller and its rooftop restaurant views attracts congress delegates, event guests and holidaymakers alike. Nobody checking in here wants to drag suitcases through a station concourse or stand in an airport queue. That is exactly what we are here for.

On arrival at Salzburg Airport (SZG), your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall holding a name sign. We track your flight in real time: if the aircraft lands early or late, the pickup time adjusts automatically, with no surcharge and no phone call needed from your side. It is only about 4 kilometres from the terminal to Rainerstrasse, so roughly 10 minutes after leaving the hall you are standing in front of the hotel. Your chauffeur assists with luggage to the entrance, where the hotel team takes over.

For departures we collect you directly at the hotel entrance. Rainerstrasse carries heavy traffic, so we agree the pickup time precisely and arrive punctually so loading is quick. For flights out of Salzburg we calculate the departure time with a buffer and give you an on-time guarantee: you reach your check-in in good time, even during winter travel peaks or the Festival season.

Many Hotel Pitter guests fly via Munich (MUC) or Vienna (VIE), where long-haul connections are far broader. We drive these routes daily: Munich takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, Vienna around 3 hours, each at a fixed flat rate in a Mercedes E-Class or V-Class with Wi-Fi and water on board. Especially for congress guests with a fixed return flight, a private drive is more predictable than any train connection with a change.

And once you are in Salzburg: from the Hotel Pitter we arrange day trips to Hallstatt, the Salzkammergut lake district, or St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang. Your chauffeur waits on site while you set the pace. All journeys are pre-booked at a fixed rate via our booking calculator, with convenient payment online or to the driver.

From the Road: Driving Guests to the Hotel Pitter

Stefan Reiter

Senior Chauffeur, over 12 years on Salzburg's roads

I drive to the Hotel Pitter almost every week, often several times a day when a congress is running in the house. The Rainerstrasse location is ideal for guests, but the approach takes local knowledge: the stretch between Mirabellplatz and the main station gets dense at peak times, and stopping space directly outside the entrance is limited. That is why I call shortly before arriving, so guests are ready when I pull up and loading is done in two minutes.

For arrivals at Salzburg Airport, many guests underestimate how short the journey really is. From the gate to the hotel lobby often takes less than half an hour, baggage belt included. That is exactly why pre-booking pays off: anyone who starts looking for a ride on the spot can easily lose more time in a queue than the entire drive takes when several flights land together. With meet and greet I approach guests directly with the name sign, and the car is parked close to the terminal.

A tip for congress guests flying home via Munich: do not plan your departure too tightly after the final session. I regularly collect guests who leave the last talk at 5 pm and fly out of Munich at 9 pm. That works out fine, but only with a fixed pickup time and a driver who knows the A8 and its roadworks. And if you have a free day: Hallstatt in the early morning from the Pitter is one of my favourite tours. Before the coach groups arrive, the village is a different experience altogether.

Local insider knowledge

Rainerstraße in Detail: Forecourt, Traffic and Timing at the IMLAUER Hotel Pitter

The IMLAUER Hotel Pitter sits at Rainerstraße 6, on the busy axis between Mirabellplatz and the main station. Rainerstraße is multi-lane here, with bus lanes and trolleybus overhead wires, and stopping in the second lane is simply not an option. Our chauffeurs use the short forecourt zone directly in front of the hotel entrance, or the side position by the Kurgarten, depending on the time of day and traffic. First-time drivers regularly underestimate the one-way system around Mirabellplatz: miss the turn and you loop back via Faberstraße. Details like these decide whether a pickup feels effortless or hectic.

On arrival, this is how it works with us: the car is in position before the agreed time, and the chauffeur sends a message with location and plate number. At check-out he takes the luggage right at the lobby, since the distance from the lift to the car is only a few metres. Coming from Salzburg Airport, the drive via Innsbrucker Bundesstraße usually takes ten to fifteen minutes; during the morning rush between 07:30 and 09:00 we build in a buffer, because traffic backs up at Mirabellplatz and the Staatsbrücke.

The seasons shape traffic around the Pitter heavily. During the Salzburg Festival in July and August, parts of the old town are closed and the right bank around the Mozarteum is packed, with congestion reaching back to Rainerstraße. On winter ski Saturdays, changeover traffic rolls towards the Tauern motorway and the Salzburg Süd junction crawls; if you are continuing to Zell am See or Obertauern on a February Saturday, coordinate the departure time with us. In Advent, the Christmas markets at Mirabellplatz and Domplatz transform the area, parking disappears and streams of pedestrians visibly slow down the approach.

The Pitter is also a congress and events house. When conferences run in the IMLAUER Sky or the function rooms, several groups often arrive at once. For corporate clients we coordinate staggered pickups so that three vehicles never block the short forecourt at the same time. The proximity to the main station, about five minutes on foot or two by car, works in our favour too: for rail connections we collect guests directly at the southern station forecourt and bring them, luggage and all, to the hotel door, which makes a real difference in rain or with ski equipment.

Our timing advice from daily practice: for departures from Salzburg, a 30-minute driving reserve is almost always enough; for Munich we plan two to two and a half hours of pure driving time on the A8 depending on the weekday, more on holiday weekends because of roadworks and border traffic at Walserberg. For early departures before 07:00 the city is empty and Salzburg Airport is eight minutes away. If you watch the fortress from the Sky Restaurant in the evening and are collected at 05:30 the next morning, you will notice none of this: the car is waiting, the luggage is loaded, the journey starts on time.

What our guests say

"Landed at Munich Airport, then on to the Hotel Pitter for a conference in the IMLAUER Sky. Our chauffeur tracked the delayed flight and still waited calmly in arrivals. The drive down the A8 was smooth, with water and Wi-Fi, and we were dropped exactly at the Rainerstraße entrance."

"We stayed at the Pitter during the festival season and were wary of the old town closures. Our driver knew every diversion, got us to the performance on time and picked us up afterwards at the agreed spot. On departure day the car was ready at 06:00, luggage loaded, airport in ten minutes."

"Ski weekend with a stopover at the Pitter, then on to Zell am See. The chauffeur advised us to leave earlier on the Saturday to beat the changeover traffic. Good call. Ski bags and suitcases fitted easily into the V-Class van, and unloading right in front of the lobby was effortless."
