A 14th century building in the middle of the old lanes
The Radisson Blu Hotel Altstadt has two addresses, and that fact alone explains how a transfer here works. One is Judengasse 15, one of the narrow, cobbled shopping lanes of the left bank old town, busy with strollers all day. The other is Rudolfskai 28, the riverside road along the Salzach. The building runs from one to the other, linking the quiet world of the pedestrian zone with the only street in the immediate area where we are allowed to drive at all.
The history of the house can be traced back to 1377. For a long time beer was brewed here, and today wooden ceilings, stucco work and old paintings recall those centuries. For guests that is a large part of the appeal: you are not staying next to the old town, you are staying inside it. Mozartplatz, Residenzplatz, the cathedral and Getreidegasse are all a few minutes away on foot. For us as chauffeurs, however, the location means that the classic forecourt with a doorman and a turning circle simply does not exist.
Large parts of Salzburg's old town are pedestrian zone, and vehicle access is tightly regulated. Private cars, chauffeur saloons included, cannot simply roll down Judengasse to the door. Travellers who arrive in a hire car or a vehicle hailed at random often end up standing on the embankment, searching for the entrance and dragging wheeled cases over the cobbles. Those are exactly the five minutes we take off your hands.
Our routine is straightforward. We pull up on Rudolfskai, stop as briefly and as close as possible, unload and walk you and your luggage to the hotel. On departure it runs in reverse: the chauffeur collects you at reception or waits at the agreed point, carries the cases to the car and drives off. Because we walk this route regularly, we know which side of the road works for stopping, how long the walk really takes and how the picture changes at busy times.
The drive itself is short. From Salzburg Airport (SZG) to Rudolfskai allow roughly 12 to 20 minutes depending on the time of day. Arriving via Munich Airport (MUC), plan on about 1 hour 45 minutes, and from Vienna Airport (VIE) about 3 hours 15 minutes. Every route runs at a flat rate that you see in the calculator before you book.

Rudolfskai is no quiet side street. It is one of the main traffic routes along the left bank of the Salzach, buses use it too, and stopping is only possible briefly. We therefore plan every arrival so that the car pulls up exactly when you are ready. For departures we ask guests to send a short message ten minutes ahead or to fix the time in advance. The chauffeur is then already in the lobby while the vehicle waits nearby, and nobody has to search the embankment.
If you travel with bulky items such as ski bags, a golf bag or a pushchair, please mention it when booking. In that case we recommend a van with more space and allow a few extra minutes for the walk. And one practical tip: if you are strolling along Judengasse and call us spontaneously, simply name the hotel as the meeting point. That is the quickest way for us to find you.
Advent changes everything. The Christmas market on Domplatz and Residenzplatz draws big crowds from late November until 24 December, and in the afternoons and evenings the lanes around the hotel are busy accordingly. We then walk more slowly with the luggage, allow more time for the pickup and recommend a more generous buffer for early evening flights. On those days our guests notice most clearly how much easier it is when someone else carries the cases through the crowd.

Excursions and onward travel from Rudolfskai
The hotel's central position is ideal not only for city walks but also as a starting point for everything beyond the city limits. Because we already have a well practised meeting point on Rudolfskai, day trips begin without fuss: you step out of the hotel, walk a few metres to the river and the car is waiting. Popular choices are private drives into the Salzkammergut to Hallstatt, St. Wolfgang or St. Gilgen, a Sound of Music tour to the film locations around Salzburg, or a city tour that also takes in districts you rarely reach on foot.
In winter many guests head to the ski resorts from here. Zell am See, Kitzbühel, Obertauern, Saalbach and Bad Gastein are all comfortably reachable by private car, as a day out or as an onward journey after a few nights in the old town. We collect skis and boots directly at the hotel and the chauffeur carries them with you to Rudolfskai. For peak season Saturdays we recommend early departures, as traffic heading into the mountains builds up noticeably.
If you continue by train, Salzburg Hauptbahnhof is only a few minutes' drive from the hotel. With heavy luggage that is well worth it, because walking through the old town and across the bridge with cases is hard work. For evening events too, such as a concert, a wedding at a castle on the edge of town or a corporate function, we pick you up on Rudolfskai and bring you back there after midnight.
In summer, during the Festival season, the old town is equally lively. Many venues are within walking distance of the hotel, yet guests in evening dress or facing rain appreciate a short ride. In those cases we agree an exact meeting point and time, so the handover works smoothly even among many other waiting vehicles.
