Overview

Salzburg and Zurich Airport: a route that rewards experience

Zurich Airport is Switzerland's most important hub and a major Star Alliance gateway. Many of our guests land in Zurich because it offers the most convenient intercontinental connections, then continue to Salzburg. Just as often we drive Salzburg guests the other way when their long-haul flight departs from Zurich and the smaller Salzburg Airport (SZG) does not offer the right connection. We serve both directions to the same standard: one vehicle, one chauffeur, one flat rate.

At around 410 km this is one of our longest premium transfers. Depending on traffic and weather we take one of two proven routes: through Germany via the A8, Munich, Memmingen and the A96 to Lake Constance, then onto the A14 into Switzerland; or through Austria across Vorarlberg and the Arlberg region onto the A14 towards St. Margrethen. Which route is faster on your travel day is a call your chauffeur makes that morning based on live conditions, not a fixed plan.

Pure driving time is roughly four hours. We plan generously: a buffer for the border region near Bregenz, for possible congestion around Munich and for a short break if you would like one. For an international departure from Zurich we time the arrival so you can check in without rushing, even when Zurich Airport's peak-hour walking distances and security lines are at their longest.

Three countries mean three toll systems, and that is the least of your concerns. The Austrian vignette, the German road sections and the Swiss motorway sticker are all included in the flat rate and already fitted to the vehicle. You exchange no money, look for no kiosk and handle no border formality: we know this route and its crossings by heart.

Whether you arrive in Zurich after a long flight or set off from Salzburg in the early hours, you step into a quiet, immaculate executive vehicle, find water and Wi-Fi waiting, and can work, sleep or simply enjoy the pre-Alpine scenery. That is the difference between a long drive and a relaxed premium transfer.

What the Salzburg to Zurich route is really about

Stefan Reiter, Senior Chauffeur and Long-Distance Route Lead

I have driven this route in both directions for years, and it is more demanding than it looks on the map. The first kilometres out of Salzburg are straightforward, but the greater Munich area can turn unpredictable between seven and nine in the morning. That is why I decide the evening before whether we go through Germany or across Vorarlberg and the Arlberg. On clear winter days the Austrian route is a scenic gift; when snow sits on the Arlberg I choose the flatter line past Lake Constance instead.

At Zurich Airport I know the flow precisely. For pickups I wait with a name sign in Arrivals 1 or 2, depending on where your flight lands, and keep an eye on your baggage belt so you do not have to search after a long-haul flight. For departures I take you straight to the correct terminal drop-off, not somewhere nearby. These four hours should not feel like an obligatory drive but like the calmest part of your journey.

My most important advice: book early and give us your flight number. That lets me track your flight live and be ready even if you land two hours early or late. When the small Salzburg Airport (SZG) does not offer your connection, Zurich is often the more elegant solution, and I make sure the long drive becomes the most pleasant part of it.

WhatsApp
How far is it from Salzburg to Zurich Airport and how long does it take?+

The route is around 410 km and takes roughly four hours. Depending on traffic and weather we travel through Germany (the A96 to Lake Constance) or through Austria across Vorarlberg onto the A14. For international departures we build in extra buffer time.

Do you really cover all the tolls and the Swiss vignette?+

Yes. The Austrian vignette, the German road sections and the Swiss motorway sticker are all included in the flat rate and already fitted to the vehicle. You pay or arrange nothing at the border.

What happens if my flight to Zurich is delayed?+

We track your flight live via the flight number and adjust the pickup time automatically. Whether your flight lands early or runs late, your chauffeur is ready at Zurich Airport at the actual arrival time, with no extra charge for waiting.

Where do we meet at Zurich Airport?+

Your chauffeur waits with a personal name sign in the arrivals hall (Arrivals 1 or 2, depending on your flight) and helps with your luggage. When departing from Salzburg we collect you directly at your chosen address, with no transfer.

Can you carry skis, lots of luggage and child seats?+

Yes. Our executive and van vehicles offer ample space for suitcases and sports gear such as skis or snowboards. Baby capsules, child seats and boosters are provided free of charge to fit your needs, just note them with your request.

Do you drive the alpine route safely in winter too?+

Of course. Our vehicles run winter tyres in the cold season and we carry snow chains when needed. If heavy snow sits on the Arlberg, your chauffeur switches to the flatter route past Lake Constance to arrive on time and safely.

How can I pay, and does the price apply to both directions?+

The transfer is bidirectional: we drive Salzburg to Zurich Airport just as we drive Zurich to Salzburg, at the same transparent flat rate. Payment is convenient by credit card, Stripe, PayPal or invoice for corporate clients.

How early should I book and what is the cancellation policy?+

For this long-distance route we recommend booking as early as possible so we can reserve vehicle and chauffeur with certainty. Cancellations are free until shortly before the trip; we state the exact deadlines transparently in your booking confirmation.
