Up to Hotel Schloss Mönchstein, in a car of your own

Few hotels in Salzburg enjoy a setting like Hotel Schloss Mönchstein. The five-star house stands on the Mönchsberg, the wooded hill that lies like a green ridge above the old town. Down below are Getreidegasse, the Festival district and the cathedral; up here there is quiet, old trees and a view that stretches from the Salzach valley to the mountains in the south. The estate's history goes back to the 14th century, and that sense of a castle above the city shapes the arrival as well.

Staying at the Mönchstein does not mean pulling up at a street corner. The address is Mönchsberg Park 26, and by car the route leads up a narrow, steep private road onto the hill. Many navigation systems do not recognise that address reliably; the hotel itself recommends entering Augustinergasse 4 in the Mülln district and following the signs from there. For a rental car driver new to Salzburg, after a long flight and in the dark, that is not a relaxing task.

This is exactly where our service comes in. VPC Premium Transfer collects you in the arrivals hall at Salzburg Airport (SZG), and your chauffeur drives you along Innsbrucker Bundesstrasse, through Maxglan and Mülln and finally up the hill road to the castle itself. Depending on traffic the journey takes around 15 to 20 minutes. Your luggage is unloaded before you have closed the car door, and you step out right at the entrance instead of hunting for a parking space or a lift with suitcases in tow.

Pedestrians can use the Mönchsberg lift from the old town, which carries you up to the plateau in moments. That is wonderful for an afternoon in the city, but not for arriving with heavy luggage, for a bride in her gown or for a 5.30 am departure. For those moments, a private car is the only genuinely comfortable option.

Guests travelling via Munich or Vienna are also driven straight to the door. From Munich Airport the drive takes about 1 hour 45 minutes, from Vienna Schwechat about 3 hours 15 minutes. From the Mönchsberg you can see what Salzburg is all about: the domes of the old town, Hohensalzburg Fortress at the far end of the ridge and, beyond, peaks that already belong to the Alps. Many guests use their stay to get to know this landscape more closely. We collect you at the castle and drive you into the day, with no parking spaces or timetables to worry about.

A private drive into the Salzkammergut is a favourite, to Lake Wolfgang with St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang, or on to Hallstatt. Those who want to experience the city itself book a private city tour or a Sound of Music tour with stops at the film locations. In summer, during the Salzburg Festival, we drive you down to the Festival district in the evening and collect you after the performance at an agreed point. The way back up the hill then takes only a few minutes.

In winter, the Mönchstein becomes a base for ski days for some guests. The ski areas of the Salzburger Land lie about one to one and a half hours away depending on the resort, and we drive you there with all your equipment and back into the warmth in the afternoon. We also handle journeys to Salzburg Hauptbahnhof or to another hotel in the region if your trip continues after the castle.

Wherever the day leads, the starting point stays the same. Your chauffeur waits outside the castle, knows the hill road in both directions and brings you back up at the end of the day, where the lights of the city lie beneath you.
