Senior Chauffeur and Pinzgau Route Lead
The drive from Salzburg to Kaprun is one of the finest in our region. After the Tauern tunnel the Pinzgau opens up, the High Tauern rising left and right, the Kitzsteinhorn ahead at 3,029 metres. My tip: on clear winter mornings an early pick up is worth it, the glacier glows in the first light and the B311 is still quiet. On high season Saturdays I deliberately build in buffer time, because traffic backs up towards the ski areas.
If you travel with ski gear, please flag it when you book. I then bring the right vehicle, usually the V-Class, so ski bags, boots and cases ride safely and dry. I always carry snow chains in winter; I rarely need them on the well cleared B311, but with fresh snow on the mountain there is nothing better than the certainty of being prepared.
Kaprun and Zell am See belong together in my mind. On the first day I often pause briefly at the Zeller See or drop guests at the Maiskogel valley station, from where the K-onnection lift climbs to the glacier.
