Overview

Your private transfer between Salzburg and Bad Ischl

Bad Ischl is the heart of the Salzkammergut and has been the imperial summer residence since the days of Emperor Franz Joseph. Travelling from Salzburg to this elegant spa town takes you through some of Austria's most beautiful scenery: past the Wolfgangsee, over gentle hills and along crystal-clear lakes. We drive you in both directions, from Salzburg and from Salzburg Airport (SZG) to Bad Ischl and back again, in a climate-controlled Mercedes with an experienced chauffeur.

The route measures around 55 kilometres and usually takes about 50 minutes. Depending on traffic and weather we use two proven roads: the scenic B158 along the Wolfgangsee via St. Gilgen and Strobl, or the faster connection via the A1 motorway and the B145. Your chauffeur chooses the most pleasant option on the day of travel, so you arrive relaxed and on time.

As a point-to-point transfer this is not a guided excursion with a fixed programme but a direct, private connection from your address to your destination. You set the pickup time and place, we take care of everything else. Whether a hotel on the Esplanade, the Kaiservilla, Bad Ischl station or a private address, we drive you there without changes and without waiting, straight to the door.

Bad Ischl was European Capital of Culture in 2024 and welcomes guests all year round: in summer for concerts, spa stays and hiking, in winter for Advent markets and quiet days in the mountains. From Salzburg Airport in particular, our transfer is the most comfortable way into the region, with no rental car, no timetables and no struggle with luggage.

Many of our guests combine Bad Ischl with other Salzkammergut destinations such as Hallstatt, St. Wolfgang or Gosau. Simply let us know: we shape your transfer flexibly, with stops, waiting time, or as part of a multi-day travel plan.

Stefan Reiter, Senior Chauffeur and Salzkammergut Specialist

I have driven the Salzburg to Bad Ischl connection for many years, often several times a week. My tip: the B158 along the Wolfgangsee is the more beautiful route, especially in autumn when the light sits over the lake. On sunny summer weekends, though, St. Gilgen and Strobl can get congested, so I prefer the A1 and B145, which run more smoothly. That keeps us at around 50 minutes without any rush.

Arriving in Bad Ischl, I know the small things that matter. The Esplanade along the Traun is only partly open to vehicles, and there is no direct car access right at the Kaiservilla in the Kaiserpark. So I drop you at the nearest permitted point and tell you in advance exactly where we meet for the return, so there is no searching around.

In winter the route is well cleared, but the passes in the Salzkammergut can be icy. We drive exclusively on winter tyres and carry chains when needed. Guests arriving with skis or a snowboard should mention it in the enquiry so we choose a vehicle with enough storage. From Salzburg Airport in winter, allow a little buffer; I will be in touch the moment I see your flight land.
